MBAIAA Newsletter – August 2023

Step 8 – “Made a list of all persons we had harmed, and became willing to make amends to them all .”

“Right here we need to fetch ourselves up sharply. It doesn’t make much sense when a real tosspot calls a kettle black. Let’s remember that alcoholics are not the only ones bedeviled by sick emotions. Moreover, it is usually a fact that our behavior when drinking has aggravated the defects of others. We repeatedly strained the patience of our best friends to a snapping point and have brought out the very worst in those who didn’t think much of us, to begin with. In many instances, we are really dealing with fellow sufferers, people whose woes we have increased. If we are now about to ask forgiveness for ourselves, why shouldn’t we start out by forgiving them, one and all?”

What’s Happening Locally

Monthly Intergroup Birthday Meeting – Saturday, August 26th @ 7:00PM

This month’s host group will be Come as You Are.  This meeting is held in-person at the Fellowship Hall (519 Hartnell St.) in Monterey every morning at 6:45AM.  Our speaker will be Andrew.

Time: Saturday, August, 26th at 7:00PM
Place:  Monterey High School Cafeteria – 101 Herrmann Dr. Monterey CA 93940

Please come and support the fellowship!  You’re encouraged you to celebrate in whatever way makes you comfortable – wear a mask, don’t wear a mask, hug, don’t hug.  No judging of others who may or may not do things the way you would like them to.  Kindness, love and celebration will be the order of the day.

The monthly birthday meeting is held on the last Saturday of each month (except for December when the meeting is held along with a holiday banquet ).  The first part of the meeting includes a presentation of birthday medallions for those celebrating annual A.A. anniversaries – all are invited to participate.  Birthdays are followed by an A.A. speaker who shares for 40 to 45 minutes and the meeting ends about 8:30pm.  Coffee is typically ready no later than 6:30pm.  Arrive early for good parking, fellowship, and a great seat!

A Note From Central Office

Summer Greetings!

These long days of light seem to symbolize our recovery.  After living in the darkness of alcoholism, we have arrived now, in the sunlight of the spirit, to carry on with our lives in ways in which we can be useful and productive.  I feel that MBAIAA has now seen its way through the difficult road of a critical worldwide health crisis, and we seem to have landed on our feet, ready to face the coming years…TOGETHER!

Things are coming along nicely. I have gotten serious about finding the office a new home. We have been given notice recently that construction will begin at 1015 Cass in January, so we have 4 months and “change” to find a suitable location for our Central Office. We have been here for over 30 years, and it has served us extremely well. We are looking for office space that has about 500 square feet, room for two desks, a small sitting area, and bookshelves. I looked at 4 or 5 spaces last week, but none were suitable. If you know of any rental agencies or real estate folks who might be able to help us find AA a new long-term home, please call us at the office, at 373-3713. We are looking at a budget of approximately $1000.00 per month.
Ground floor preferred, but not necessary.

Don’t forget about the Dog Show coming October 14th.

Be well,

Jana
